Protestants apparently don't know about the New Testament.
You know, all that stuff about Jesus and so on. Somebody probably
should tell them, don't you think?

Quoth the Earl:

"The protest_ants are big into the kjv and they know very little about the bible.
Most of them don't even know of the NT and it's final word from God."

I'm sure you haven't. It's a drill which trains Protestant children
in knowing their Bible, inside and out.

Since Catholics aren't encouraged to actually read the thing --
and boy, does that ever show in your case -- then this comes as no surprise

Duke once said Catholics don't read the Bible. His reasoning was that
they get their truth from the Vatican and so they don't have to. (And
he'll deny saying it, so I'll show him the link, but he'll still deny
it, claiming somebody munged the "attributes".)

Oh, but we are. At Mass daily, we get sections form the OT, Psalms, Epistles
and, most important, the four Gospels. There's some variation to the 1st 3.

Ask a typical protest_ant what he understands form the following:

MASS:
Do this in memory of me - Mat 26:26-29, Mark 14:22-26, Luke 22:14-20,
1Cor 11:23-25 (11-34).

SACRAMENTS:
1. Baptism - John 3:5-6, Mat 28:19, Hebrew 2:14-15
2. Holy Eucharist -Mat 26:26-29, Mark 14:22-26, Luke 22:14-20,
1Cor 11:23-25 (11-34).
3. Confession - John 20:22-23, 2 Cor 5:18-19, Mat 9:2-8
4. Matrimony - Mat 19:4-6, Mark 10:5-9, Ephesians 5:31
5. Confirmation - Ephesians 1:13-14, Acts 8:14-17, Acts 19:5-6,
6. Holy Orders - Acts 13:3 & 14:23, John 20:22, 1 & 2 Tim
7. Anointing of the Sick - Mark 6:12-13, John 5:14

PAPACY:
Mat 16:13-19 (Pope), Mat 28:16-20 (Teaching), Eph 2:19-20 (Base)

PURGATORY:
1 Cor 3:10-15

FAITH (without deeds is dead faith):
Mat 25:31-46, James 2:26
Feed the hungry.
Clothe the naked.
Give drink to the thirsty.
Visit the imprisoned.

Heal the sick.
Cast out demons.

Heh. Back when I was in Sunday School, I could recite the names of the books of the
Bible, Genesis to Revelation. And find a given passage in any of them within
ten or fifteen seconds. We had contests doing exactly that.

But Earl's simply a bigot. The defining feature of bigots is holding loud
opinions that have no basis in fact.

He should go to a Baptist church for a month and learn of his ignorance.

Preferably a black Baptist church. They have *much* better music.

Catholics, on average, are much less knowledgeable about the Bible than
Protestants.

(And Jehovah's Witnesses, on average, are much more knowledgeable about it
than other Protestants. You guys are *very* impressive.)

Thus you don't understand that the 4 gospels are the very recorded verbal
teaching of Jesus himself including his actions. And there is NO contradiction
in the spiritual message.

Protestants apparently don't know about the New Testament.
You know, all that stuff about Jesus and so on. Somebody probably
should tell them, don't you think?
"The protest_ants are big into the kjv and they know very little about the bible.
Most of them don't even know of the NT and it's final word from God."

I'm sure you haven't. It's a drill which trains Protestant children

It doesn't. Most protest_ants think the OT is THE bible.
The above statement is in error. Most Protestants *know* the Bible consists of the OT and NT. Duke has been shown to be a liar, once again.

You're a Catholic. I don't think you actually know that much about
the Gospels. But I could be wrong, so let's find out: take this quiz
and, since you say you never lie here, report back how many you got correct:

You should -- twenty instances where the gospels contradict each other.
Can't even get the basic facts right. (Judas dying twice is my own personal favorite).
If a story has so many basic, simple facts wrong, then there's no reason
to trust any of it.

Any of it at all.

But then you do always pick out the "facts" you like, and hand-wave the rest.

The real issue: HE IS RISEN.

SB's: physical silliness. Catholics: spiritual value.

Yep. Right there in that "Bible" thingie. If you'd read it -- like Protestants do --
you'd have known that.

In Acts, he buys a field with the money he got from putting the finger on
Jesus, and the walking out into it, "falling headlong, he burst open in the middle
and all his bowels gushed out". Your basic B-horror movie ending.

Matthew disagrees, saying that Judas didn't buy that field with his pieces
of silver, instead he threw them away in disgust and went out and hanged himself.

Died once splatted out on the ground, died again by hanging himself.

Well, either that, or your Bible can't get its basic facts straight.

Me, I'm going with the one-death, muddled Bible, theory.

Yep. In that passage from Mathew, Jesus explicitly says if
you don't do those things, you'll be turned away --
"they will go away into eternal punishment."

In other words, Jesus says that if Earl isn't doing those very things,
he's going to end up in that hell he's always telling us we're bound for.

'course, as we've seen over and over, he only goes in for those parts
of the Bible he likes. No doubt he dismisses that bit as inconvenient.

Sorry, and gleefully, it doesn't say that all have to do all things. In fact,
the ones mentioned are only a typical need. Some of us work the soup kitchens,
some cook thanksgiving dinner for needy families, some pray at the abortion
clinic, some do in-church ministry, some teach bible classes, and on and on and
on. One big family.

That coming from someone who attended hundreds of Protestant

more or less than the truth.

What you, in your utter ignorance are making up isn't merely
laughable, it's pernicious lying.

.> What does "draw swords" imply? Hint - OT.

Hint: read your Bible some time.

Hint:

"Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God,
that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day,
and having done all, to stand.

Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with
truth, and having on the breastplate of
righteousness;

And your feet shod with the preparation of the
gospel of peace;

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye
shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the
wicked.

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of
the Spirit, which is the word of God"

And take "the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God".

Hint: that comes from Ephesians 6.

Hint: Ephesians is in the New Testament.

Hint: that's where that Bible drill takes its name.

Hint: you look like a total buffoon when you just pull claims
like that out of your ass.

Protestants apparently don't know about the New Testament.
You know, all that stuff about Jesus and so on. Somebody probably
should tell them, don't you think?

His pastor goes on vacation on Christmas.

As Paul takes leave of his people he thinks of the greatness of the struggle
which lies before them. Undoubtedly life was much more terrifying for the
ancient people than it is for us today. They believed implicitly in evil
spirits, who filled the air and were determined to work men harm. The words
which Paul uses, powers, authorities, world-rulers, are all names for different
classes of these evil spirits. To him the whole universe was a battleground. The
Christian had not only to contend with the attacks of men; he had to contend
with the attacks of spiritual forces which were fighting against God. We may not
take Paul's actual language literally; but our experience will tell us that
there is an active power of evil in the world. Robert Louis Stevenson once said:
"You know the Caledonian Railway Station in Edinburgh? One cold, east windy
morning, I met Satan there." We do not know what actually befell Stevenson but
we recognize the experience; we have all felt the force of that evil influence
which seeks to make us sin

Hmmmmm. Evil spirits, eh.

Feed the hungry.
Clothe the naked.
Give drink to the thirsty.
Visit the imprisoned.
Heal the sick.
Cast out demons.
I'm not going to go through your cut and paste bolus item by item.
You want to discuss specifics, you pick one and say -- in your own words --
what it means.
Cut and paste??? It's the very teachings of Jesus Christ himself in the
Gospels.
Post by Atlatl Axolotl
For example, we could discuss whether you yourself visit prisoners.
No one has to do all. I'm very active in the ones I do. I have friends that
visit the prisons as part of their discipleship. Where each feels he best fits.

And then you snipped it out and claimed I never answered.

And then, not content with having lied about my not answering
him, Lyin' Earl invents yet another lie about me.

I don't itemize my taxes, Lyin' Earl.

I took no deductions for the money I gave to others.

Yet another flat out, bald faced lie from you.

But you don't care, do you?

Actually, what you did was to make up a lie about what motivates me

And now you're piling yet one more lie on top of that.

Now, may we expect you to slander me some more as
regards what moves me to charity?

I'll be quite surprised if you don't.

I assumed. For instance, you may live in a country that doesn't "engage" in
itemized deductions. When your itemized is less than standard deduction, you
take the standard. Most of us are not stupid like you.
Actually, what you did was to make up a lie about what motivates me
to use my money to help others.
Why would anyone believe that you would do that?

Nope, revealing what a fool you make of yourself.

Exactly, precisely, and 180 degrees wrong, ignorant Earl:
if you have evidence, then there's no slander.
Slander is making up false stories about someone.

It's a drill which trains Protestant children
in knowing their Bible, inside and out.
.> It doesn't. Most protest_ants think the OT is THE bible.
No, Lyin' Earl, we did not. And they do not. You don't have
a clue about Protestantism.
That coming from a SB is laughable. What does "draw swords" imply? Hint - OT.
Post by Atlatl Axolotl
Which in no way stops you from making up lies about it.
Did you see my message about an SB office mate of mine?
We have 4 Masses on Christmas Eve/Day. He asked me how many we had to attend.
Just 1, I said. Then I inquired what his SB Church had. Nothing, he responded.
His pastor goes on vacation on Christmas.
SB minister, mind you.
Is this your case too?
Post by Atlatl Axolotl
.> >Since Catholics aren't encouraged to actually read the thing --

.> Oh, but we are. At Mass daily, we get sections form the OT, Psalms, Epistles
.> and, most important, the four Gospels. There's some variation to the 1st 3.
Did I say you don't get selected passages read at you?
I did not.
And the point is that we get a regular exposure to the important parts of the
OT, Psalms, Gospels and Epistles where they tie into one another. You SB stick
to the "draw swords" OT.
Post by Atlatl Axolotl
What I did say is that you are not encouraged to read it for
yourself and then make up your own minds about what you believe.
Protestants tend not to go in for authoritarian mindsets.
Make up my own mind????? I have an entire 2000 year old organization starting
with Jesus Christ to pull it all together.
Draw swords. Heeheehee.

Gospels.
.> >For example, we could discuss whether you yourself visit prisoners.
.> No one has to do all.

Sorry, Jesus didn't say "Check two of the following five options".
Jesus said you must do all of them.

I know that, because as I good ex-Protestant, I read the Bible
for myself. Principally the New Testament.

But since you feel free to make up what Protestants do and do
not believe, it's no surprise that you feel free to make up what
Jesus said.

.> I'm very active in the ones I do. I have friends that
.> visit the prisons as part of their discipleship. Where each feels he best fits.
.> So what do you do??

What do I do? Why should I do anything? I'm not the one
who believes in your Jesus.

But even though I don't believe in your Jesus, I give away thousands
of dollars a year. Sometimes to established charities, sometimes
to friends in need, more often lately to people I don't even know, but
whose desperate situations will be eased by my donations.

But I don't do it out of fear of hell, or because some organization
tells me to. I do it because I can.

The good news about the visiting sick people and prisoners bit
is that since Jesus is talking about "my brethren", it only means
the people who go to the same church that you and Jesus go to.
Ask priests, they will confirm this. You can do that while
you're visiting them in prison.

means the people who go to your church, and not the other church
down the road where the hymn books are the wrong colour. It is
a warning to the rest of the world to treat the believing brethren
nice or you'll go to hell (and if you're not believing brethren
then you go to hell anyway, so actually it's kind of a con trick.)

Jesus said "follow me". He loved all his "neighbors" - jews, tax collectors,
samaritans, gentiles, soldiers, pharisees, Sadducees, crippled, diseased,
lepers, the old, the young.

Protestants apparently don't know about the New Testament.
You know, all that stuff about Jesus and so on. Somebody probably
should tell them, don't you think?
Does this mean that you don't know that protestants tend to approach the OT in
their faith rather than the NT???? You're about as knowledgeable of this as you
are of pumps.

"The protest_ants are big into the kjv and they know very little about the bible.
Most of them don't even know of the NT and it's final word from God."
I stand solidly behind that comment.

Remember, for all practical purpose, few if any US protest_ant church follows
the teachings of Jesus Christ in the NT Gospels. Right off the bat, they accept
Baptism but deny that it applies as Jesus demonstrated it.

Get it - they REJECT the teachings of Jesus. And by an large, when one quotes
the bible, mostly OT, it's in "thee's and thou's and spakes, etc".

Sonny, I grew up in the Southern Baptist Church. It was Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.
Communion is His name. A child's sermon in the middle of every Sunday
service, with the pastor inviting the children to come forward, reciting

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them,
for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."

Summer Bible camp. Jesus. Communion, His blood and His flesh.
Midweek prayer meetings. In Jesus' name. Sunday school, with
my own mother teaching us about Jesus.

So once again we see Lyin' Earl, who I imagine has never sat through
one Protestant service in his entire life, pulling an utter lie about
what Protestants believe and what Protestants don't believe
out of his ass.

Different Day, same Earl.

I don't. They say it. That's a rejection of Christian baptism. The only other
is "Communion", but there is no Consecration of the Eucharist available in the
protester Churches as my the Priest in Catholic Church, thus their communion is
a cracker and a sip of grape juice. =========> SYMBOLIC.

53 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the
Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats my
flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last
day. 55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink

Jesus elevated bread and wine and proclaimed "This IS my...........".

Good point.

But what in the OT do you mean about hating homosexuals? The prohibition in
Leviticus was of men butt-fucking other men, not homosexuality per se. And
that rule was made to protect their society from extinction during an era
of high infant mortality. For that reason, if men wanted to fuck, they were
required to fuck women, not other men. They weren't even allowed to jack
off (Onan). The OT says nothing at all against any other form of
homosexuality.

one Protestant service in his entire life, pulling an utter lie about
what Protestants believe and what Protestants don't believe
out of his ass.
Different Day, same Earl.
There is of course the stuff about Ten Commandments
and hating homosexuals and wiccans; that doesn't come
up in "the New Testament".

I was about to bring that up. "The NET Bible" translation

Yep. In fact Paul, whom Earl regards as Jesus' ventriloquist
dummy, commanded that Christians should do that, and he
did so in both Romans and in Second Corinthians.

Of course as we've all seen, Duke only accepts the bits
of the Bible he likes.
