But he does show himself every day. No one is intelligent enough to know it's him.
Why would a God want to be believed in?
..that's just it...no real god would want or need to
be worshipped and
praised by millions of groveling Christians.
Why is it that atheists bother thinking about the
nature of God?
We have to deal with religious people, so we have to
understand them. And that means understanding their gods.
Being open-minded, we can do that better than they can.
If I wanted to be a god dealing with human beings -
probably because I feel sorry for them - I probably
would want to limit our instinctive behaviour when
it's anti-social or self-destructive, and while I'd
hope (along with a team of special advisor technocrats)
to be able to justify my rules as good and necessary
and ultimately in your interest, it is simpler and quicker
if I say "Do this because I'm your god and I say do it."
Of course my special advisors and I need to come up with
rules that actually do make people be happy and good and
look after each other, and not just use fear of me to
get a good deal for priests, which is how it usually goes.
