Protests erupt across the country against President-elect Donald Trump

http://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/national/article113821358.html

In Boston, estimates of just under 10,000 anti-Trump protesters
streamed through the downtown are, chanting "Trump's a racist" and
carrying signs that say "Impeach Trump" and "Abolish Electoral
College." The latter sign is in reference to the fact that Trump,
while winning the Electoral College, likely lost the popular vote
narrowly to Clinton.

They want to "Abolish Electoral College." no chance of that
happening.

The election is over they might as well get over it. Unless they are
suggesting revolution.

No, there is not "no" chance of it happening. It would require a
constitutional amendment, of course, and that could happen.

True possible but very unlikely with the number of red States.

FUNNY is that these "college morons" are rioting against a free and open
election where the only rigged part was the media and the Liberals
attempt to put Hillary in the Presidency because she is a woman.... The
Venezuelans are rioting against the Liberals/Socialists that won't allow
free and open elections or a recall of their Liberal/Socialists that are
in power.

Notice the news media is ignoring what's been going on in Venezuela
where Socialism is a total failure and people eat out of garbage cans.

It is interesting that Mr. Trump said these elections were rigged ..
until he won.
More interesting is that the people who fell into a swoon when Trump
suggested he might not accept the results of the election if he lost
seem to be the same people who are marching in the streets of New York
and San Francisco rejecting the results of the election.

The election was indeed "rigged" in a way. Not by the election
officials but by literally all of the "experts" and the MSM.
For months they have all been publishing what were obviously bogus
poll numbers and survey results and barraging the public daily with
their "Trump will lose by a landslide" message.
What really WAS rigged was the Democrat Party's nomination process and
that resulted in about the only Democrat candidate that Trump had a
chance of defeating. Talk about irony.
The Democrats shot themselves in the foot.... The funny part is that I
kept telling them the polls were a lie and that Hillary was Corrupt and
didn't inspire anyone. But then neither did Bernie.

For 8 years I told Democrats that you can't fix our economy with
Socialism... I told them the jobs numbers are a lie.... the economy is
stagnant and the inflation is actually more than the ObamaRegime was
telling us. Now the Liberals are telling us that the RUST BELT had no
jobs and wages were falling and inflation was costing them more to live
with green energy and EPA regulations running up costs of farming and
electric bills. How stupid did they have to be to ignore the truth being
thrown in their face every day for 8 long stagnation ridden Obama wasted
years?

And they called me the idiot... there's your irony. ;)

That might be what it will take.
I've often wondered how the number of electoral college votes for a
state college reflects its population size.
It's fairly simple. Each state gets 1 elector for each House of
Representatives seat, and 1 for each of its 2 Senators. So the
minimum would be 3. The system is designed to make candidates appeal
to the country as a whole, and not just to pockets of it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electoral_College_(United_States)

In any parliamentary democracy with first-past-the-post elections
of its members, the party that wins the most seats is not guaranteed to
get a majority of the popular vote, either. Many parliamentary systems
use proportional representation, though, which encourages more than 2
parties, and coalition governments

http://thoughtundermined.com/2011/10/03/majority-government-minority-support/

The 23rd Amendment put the District of Columbia, which is not a state,
on the same footing as the smallest states, with 3.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twenty-third_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution

The Territories: Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, etc., do not get any
electoral college votes, just as their only representation in Congress
are non-voting delegates.

The US is not a unitary republic. It is federal, and the method of
electing the President reflects that. A candidate who runs up huge
majorities in some states, but does poorly elsewhere, can fail to
be elected president, even if the popular vote totals would put him
or her at the top.

Mrs Clinton didn't hit 50%. If we elected by popular vote, now would
be the time for a runoff of the top 2 candidates.

Maine and Nebraska allow for the electors corresponding to their House
representation to be elected by district. The 2 electors assigned
to correspond to their Senators are winner-take-all. The Electoral
College could take on a more proportional character if the other states
adopted that system.

That the real rub. States get a minimum of three votes without
consideration of population size.
That allows low density states a greater voice. An example Alaska has a
greater voice per person than California. While California has a lot of
electors, Alaska has a much lower population and should not have the voice
it has. Three electors is excessive for such small population.

Take a look at Plato's Republic, some time. He regarded the transition from democracy to tyranny as an inevitable process and he describes the current situation with frightening accuracy. (But Democracy wasn't Plato's favourite).

Now Trump is not Hitler. Hitler was young and healthy and a workaholic as well as one of the most effective orators of all time.

Trump is old, looks to be in bad health, and (from the accounts of people who have worked with him) pretty lazy. It would be quite in character for him to loose interest in the whole enterprise six months down the line.

But, even if Trump _isn't_ the last president, his election indicates deep-seated problems. There will be another one along in an election or two.

A fundamental problem is what to do about the left-behind. Both technological and social progress leaves numbers of people out of their time, always has. No government anywhere in the world has found a sustainable answer, except maximise education. And, of course, both ethical and technological progress has been especially fast.

Trump's "answer", keep zombie industries staggering about, was the one that clogged the arteries of Britain from WWII up to Thatcher.

You can do this by some combination of protectionism and tax payer subsidies but what allows the employees to keep their jobs-for-life and high pay, disadvantages everyone else to a similar degree.

Basically everyone else pays for what are effectively make-work jobs. You aren't creating wealth, just transferring it.

I agree we have deep seated problems. The inner cities are a example
with all the gang killings on a weekly basis and little to no MSM
coverage unless they think it will help the liberal gun grabbers. The
number of people that just don't think they need work or even clean up
after themselves. Conservatives take over a park and they are
arrested then liberals as in the Occupy Wallstreet movement take over
a park and why were they not arrested?

When people though conservatives would protest the election what did
liberals say should be done to them? I just think it should also be
done to liberals.

You have a point. Yet the liberal elites make fun of those they call
uneducated just because they don't have a college degree. Such as
plumbers, electricians, Construction workers, Police and fire, factory
workers, farmers, truck drivers and even the military solders we are
honoring today. The Liberal elites insult them and forget they do

That arrogance got Hillary beat IMO. What did Hillary call these

What do you call all the freebies Democrats offer for votes?
Democrats represent absolute lack personal responsibility. Trump
wasn't my choice but nether was Hillary to me they both suck. We need
a moderate in office one that can work with both sides and neither was
that.

But, even if Trump _isn't_ the last president, his election

I agree we have deep seated problems. The inner cities are a
example with all the gang killings on a weekly basis and little to no
MSM coverage unless they think it will help the liberal gun grabbers.
The number of people that just don't think they need work or even
clean up after themselves. Conservatives take over a park and they
are arrested then liberals as in the Occupy Wallstreet movement take
over a park and why were they not arrested?
If the media are to blame for something, blame them for *over-reporting*
crime. There is no conspiracy of silence on crime in the US, other than
in a signal failure to transmit the fact that crime (especially murder)
has been going down across the US for years now.

Bullshit they only report the crime and the BLM movement only care or
report it if done by a white. Democrats have become so racist they
make the scumbags of the KKK look good by comparison.

Look at Portland the brownshirts caused over a million in damage in a
city that voted for Hillary talk about scum liberals. Think of how
that money could have been spent helping people.

The election is over and it would be best to work with Trump and see
if we can do some good. Having a temper tantrum like liberals are
doing isn't only not going to do any good it makes people believe all
the violent protested need to go home to mommies basement or to gather
up there welfare checks.

Progressives have lost. They lost big time because they are idiot
freeloaders and racist. Portland protest and the violence at Trump
rallies showed that. Still waiting to see how many leave the USA that
promised to do so and see who cares.

Yes, pretty much. The ultra-nationalist wing of German politics was
born out of the loss of WWI, with paramilitary militia groups founded
and manned (and run accordingly) by ex-soldiers. The official name for
the Brownshirts was "Sturmabteilung" (in short SA), a military formation
born during the Great War, and they became an integral part of Nazi
political activities less than a year after Hitler joined the party.

Whether it is monetary policy, international trade, healthcare or any

Sad how much some liberals have become. Then to show how stupid some

Look at the polls why do they say the uneducated and educated when

degree deplorable? Bet that one word cost her votes. Look at the
arrogance you see in the liberal elite.

As a personal example how many times has it been proposed that because

The plumber, or the car mechanic is an expert in their own field, politicians
are expert in theirs. That doesn't make them more inteligent, but it does make
their opinion in their own field worth listening to. When the car mechanic
tells you that he thinks the problem with your car is due to some part you'd
never heard about you'd generally better take his word. You might ask him to
explain, but if you'd do you'd better be ready to make the effort of listening
and learning something.

I think Bernie was always too far to the left to win the presidency. It's a problem you get when you let the party faithful elect your candidate because the median position of the party faithful is always pretty far from the median position of the population. As with our Labour party.

I think they underestimated the degree to which the Crooked Hillary campaign would catch the public mood.

Lefties in a panic that their plans to fundamentally transform the USA into a banana republic have been put on hold by the electorate.
The Libs are at DEF-CON 1 aren't they, it's full panic mode... they
needed to have a TRIGGER WARNING POSTED and BROADCAST it prior to the
election saying that "FACING REALITY MAY RESULT FROM ELECTIONS" do not
watch TV or view any social media or radio.... until you have taken
your medications....

Whatever the problem is, ObamaCare wasn't the solution for it.

It's time to return to spanking kids that get out of line. I suggest we start
with those age 30 and younger.

True. I had typed a couple of sentences more, but deleted them before

Maybe, maybe not.

There's an attempt to form an interstate compact (the National Popular
Vote Interstate Compact) where the states agree to award all their
electoral votes to whichever candidate wins the popular vote.

Not much participation yet, but it doesn't require a Constitutional
amendment. Congressional approval of the compact may be required under
Article I Section 10 of the Constitution.
