_______________

And therefore what?

The number of believers has no bearing on whether those beliefs are true or not.

That is the great thing about science, it helps us separate fact from fiction.

Science has done a much better job of sorting it out on the basis of evidence and observation than religion has done through dogma.

Otherwise we would still believe the earth is the center of the solar system.

The fact that people believe something does not make it true.

My Christian friends think that their religion is based on facts.
Facts such as the physical reality of Jesus' life on Earth and
the factual occurrence of His resurrection.

I doubt that they'd appreciate your dismissing these as having
nothing to do with "truth".

Personally I do not share their beliefs. Thus, either one of us or the other
does in fact have the truth. Just as when one person believes in the
Loch Ness monster and his friend does not, one of them holds a belief
which is aligned with reality.

And the truth of that issue is equally indifferent to popular vote.

God is all love; angels and men are not. Thus it is God's desire that man and
angels be given the choice to follow God or follow self. To follow self
contrary to God is the evil in man and angels.

No it doesn't.
"The biblical story of the Israelites’ Descent and Exodus speaks about important events that took place in Egypt, so we should expect to find records of these events in Egyptian sources – the seven years of famine predicted by Joseph, the arrival of his father Jacob with his Hebrew family from Canaan, the great plagues of Moses, the death of Egypt’s first born, including the Pharaoh’s first son, and the drowning of the Pharaoh himself in the Red Sea; all these events should have been recorded by the scribes who kept detailed records of daily life. But we do not find even one contemporary inscription from the relevant period that records any of these events.

Egyptian Scribe

Egyptian scribes were tasked with recording important events, yet there are no records of the biblical story of the Israelites’ Descent and Exodus. ‘The Scribe’, Louvre Museum. Credit: Jean-Pierre Dalbéra / flickr .

In spite of this silence, the name of Israel has been found inscribed on one of the pharaonic stele, although with no connection either to Moses or the Exodus. However, although the Merenptah stele locates the Israelites in Canaan around 1219 BC, it makes no mention of them previously living in Egypt or departing from it in an Exodus under Moses.

Merneptah Stele

This complete silence of official Egyptian records was later broken by Egyptian historians, who appear to have known many details about Moses and his Exodus. While contemporary pharaonic authorities seem to have deliberately suppressed the mention of Moses and his followers in their records, popular traditions retained the story of the man whom Egyptians regarded as a divine being, for more than 10 centuries, before it was recorded by Egyptian priests. Under the Macedonian Ptolemaic Dynasty, which ruled Egypt after the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BC, Egyptian historians made sure to include the story of Moses and his exodus in their historical accounts."

40 years? Honestly? "40" was a number chosen for it numerological
significance. Jesus, 40 days in the desert. Flood, 40 days. Egypt
predicted to be deserted of ALL people for 40 years (failed prophesy BTW
Ezekiel 29:10-11). 40 days of Lent. 40 40 40 40 over and over again in
the bible. Just like 12, 7 and 70.

Imagine Pharaoh. We've lost millions of slaves. Better be quick. They're
moving at break neck speed of a few metres per day. How would he ever
find them? By the trail of rubbish left by 2-3 million people of course.

predicted to be deserted of ALL people for 40 years (failed prophesy BTW
Ezekiel 29:10-11). 40 days of Lent. 40 40 40 40 over and over again in
the bible. Just like 12, 7 and 70.
Imagine Pharaoh. We've lost millions of slaves. Better be quick. They're
moving at break neck speed of a few metres per day. How would he ever
find them? By the trail of rubbish left by 2-3 million people of course.
Is that your proof? Fantasy?
FYI 40 years is what the bible considers a generation.
God ordered the wandering to consume the generation that had defied him.

How very inefficient. Why not just take the few favoured who had not
defiled out of Egypt to start with and leave all the others behind. God
would know who they are ahead of time, would he not?

But you do MORE damage to your case. Supposedly not a single arrival to
Canaan had been alive when the exodus started. So no veterans to verify
the events told of (God hardened Pharaoh's heart, 10 plagues etc). Life
expectancy was lower BUT the chance that not ONE single immigrant at the
start finished is simply beyond probability in 40 years. Not a single
one out of millions. If as believed by anthropologists studying Hittite
sites of ancient cities that 1 in 100 lived to 50 years of age it is
beyond mathematical probability. That not one out of millions did not
live past those 40 years, even though Moses lived to 120, dying just
before the goal desired was achieved. How did Moses write about his own
death?

So we have all these ancient Israelites who are so dying young that none
can live beyond 40 and yet God's favoured pet Moses is allowed to live
to an age of 120 only equalled by only ONE person in modern times
(Jeanne Calment) out of a global population of billions.

It's ALL TOO silly.

So a whole generation (over a million
people, according to the Bible) died in
the Sinai, and yet there is not a SINGLE
GRAVE for any of them?

Nor a single road, a single well, a
single campfire, a single shelter.

Even the Neanderthals left behind
more evidence than that......

No, he figured that all the current people who kept disobeying him would
be dead by then and not see the holy land in the myth. Some of their kids
and grandkids would. And, 40 was a commonly used number meaning a lot back
then. People were lucky to live forty years in those days.

Whoever was left after all those firstborn sons kicked the bucket. I'm sure
a lot of their other slaves were first born sons, too. And, lots of soldiers,
priests, royals, nobles, politicians, scribes, etc. This is never mentioned.
Egypt would have been a mess and very open to invasion. I wonder if this also
would have affected bulls, rams, billy goats, male hippos, crocodiles, gray
herons, etc.

Great Crom, it would take them the 40 years just to make a turn!

Imagine calling "halt" for the day; it would take hours and hours
for word to reach the end!

Look a globe or map of the area. Did they happen to consider just going
in one of the cardinal directions until they came across something? The
Sinai is small. Seriously, was there no other people there?

Only if they were in single file. Four abreast would only take 10 years.
100 abreast...you do the sums.

No other people there to ask for directions?
Even if there were, "Turn left at the twenty third sand dune.", when the sand is
constantly shifting, isn't very helpful, anyway.

40 years? Honestly? "40" was a number chosen for it numerological
significance. Jesus, 40 days in the desert. Flood, 40 days. Egypt
predicted to be deserted of ALL people for 40 years (failed prophesy
BTW Ezekiel 29:10-11). 40 days of Lent. 40 40 40 40 over and over again
in the bible. Just like 12, 7 and 70.
Imagine Pharaoh. We've lost millions of slaves. Better be quick.
They're moving at break neck speed of a few metres per day. How would
he ever find them? By the trail of rubbish left by 2-3 million people
of course.
Great Crom, it would take them the 40 years just to make a turn!
Only if they were in single file. Four abreast would only take 10 years.
100 abreast...you do the sums.
Post by Gronk
Imagine calling "halt" for the day; it would take hours and hours for
word to reach the end!
Look a globe or map of the area. Did they happen to consider just going
in one of the cardinal directions until they came across something? The
Sinai is small. Seriously, was there no other people there?
No other people there to ask for directions?
Even if there were, "Turn left at the twenty third sand dune.", when the sand is
constantly shifting, isn't very helpful, anyway.
Not all deserts have sand dunes, you fucking idiot.

You are lying. There's a highway that runs down the entire cost. Yet you claim no one has been there. You're just full of lame excuses. Ask the people who built the roads and towns in the area if they have been there. They'll say yes. Ask them about the artifacts found from the exodus there. They'll laugh in your face, lame excuses.

According to scripture Mt Sinai was in Midian territory. Traditionally Midian is in Saudi. In fact, old maps show the word "Midyn" in the area, and also there are other names of towns and locations that still have their names, to this day.

As to your second part, according to scripture, the Hebrews left Egypt that very day, and then camped three times before they crossed the Red Sea. This makes it quite impossible for any crossing site to be located on the border of Egypt, as they already crossed the border before they crossed the Red Sea.

No need to go through Canaan. Besides, the border of Canaan is the southern tip of the dead sea.

That's right, big nose. The Sinai is very rocky. So where are all the artifacts left by some million people who wandered around for 40 years? Are they hiding up your big nose?
In Saudi, which has been largely unexplored. Next.
You mean that the desert in Saudi is full of green pastures and water???????
But we are talking about Sinai, donkey!

40 years?

Things change. Egypt used to be green. Went there several years ago and saw some structures there that were burned and lot's of ash. Seems the remainders from the plagues of the Exodus are still there. Afterwards we saw Egypt turn into a desert with many of the structures covered with sand. Then, we also know that Israel used to be covered with trees. We also know that much of that was cut down. Things change. The real Mt Sinai has a brook coming out of it.

Drought and famine and locusts were dread plagues in those lands and we have accounts of them.

Historicity

"The scholarly consensus is that the figure of Moses is legendary, and not historical,[8] although a "Moses-like figure may have existed somewhere in the southern Transjordan in the mid-late 13th century B.C."[31] Certainly no Egyptian sources mention Moses or the events of Exodus-Deuteronomy, nor has any archaeological evidence been discovered in Egypt or the Sinai wilderness to support the story in which he is the central figure."

"Egypt Remembers: Ancient accounts of the Great Exodus

The biblical story of the Israelites’ Descent and Exodus speaks about important events that took place in Egypt, so we should expect to find records of these events in Egyptian sources – the seven years of famine predicted by Joseph, the arrival of his father Jacob with his Hebrew family from Canaan, the great plagues of Moses, the death of Egypt’s first born, including the Pharaoh’s first son, and the drowning of the Pharaoh himself in the Red Sea; all these events should have been recorded by the scribes who kept detailed records of daily life.
