40 years? Honestly? "40" was a number chosen for it numerological
significance. Jesus, 40 days in the desert. Flood, 40 days. Egypt
predicted to be deserted of ALL people for 40 years (failed prophesy BTW
Ezekiel 29:10-11). 40 days of Lent. 40 40 40 40 over and over again in
the bible. Just like 12, 7 and 70.
Imagine Pharaoh. We've lost millions of slaves. Better be quick. They're
moving at break neck speed of a few metres per day. How would he ever
find them? By the trail of rubbish left by 2-3 million people of course.
Is that your proof? Fantasy?
FYI 40 years is what the bible considers a generation.
God ordered the wandering to consume the generation that had defied him.
How very inefficient. Why not just take the few favoured who had not
defiled out of Egypt to start with and leave all the others behind. God
would know who they are ahead of time, would he not?
But you do MORE damage to your case. Supposedly not a single arrival to
Canaan had been alive when the exodus started. So no veterans to verify
the events told of (God hardened Pharaoh's heart, 10 plagues etc). Life
expectancy was lower BUT the chance that not ONE single immigrant at the
start finished is simply beyond probability in 40 years. Not a single
one out of millions. If as believed by anthropologists studying Hittite
sites of ancient cities that 1 in 100 lived to 50 years of age it is
beyond mathematical probability. That not one out of millions did not
live past those 40 years, even though Moses lived to 120, dying just
before the goal desired was achieved. How did Moses write about his own
So we have all these ancient Israelites who are so dying young that none
can live beyond 40 and yet God's favoured pet Moses is allowed to live
to an age of 120 only equalled by only ONE person in modern times
(Jeanne Calment) out of a global population of billions.
It's ALL TOO silly.
